Friends of the Library
The purpose of the Friends of the Bangor Public Library is to supplement the library's resources through fund-raising activities and to stimulate interest in, and support for, the Bangor Public Library.
The Friends meet every month on the 3rd Thursday at 6:15pm in the Board Room at BPL.
The Book Sale
In June, we hold our annual Book Sale. Proceeds from past sales have purchased the benches and bicycle rack by the lower entrance, our antiques digital database access, folding chairs and an annual library membership to the New England Genealogical and Historical Society.
A Member Preview is held the day before our Book Sale; each family member may buy up to 50 books.
Location of the book sale: Bangor Elks Club, 108 Odlin Rd
The Friends are not accepting books until January 2019
DO NOT BRING BOOKS TO THE LIBRARY: Books can be taken to the Creative Arts Center in Brewer at 54 Wilson St. in Brewer every day from 6:00 am - 10:00 pm (STARTING IN JANUARY 2019)
Anyone who gave us books for the 2017 Book Sale should go to the Library and take a seat on one of the eight rocking chairs or check out the window shades in the Local History Department your books helped purchase.
Thank you for supporting the 2018 Friends of the Library Book Sale!
The Summer Picnic
The picnic is our 'Thank you' to the library staff and volunteers. All members of the Friends are welcome to participate in this small gesture of our appreciation to those who serve the public so well throughout the year.
We Manage the Masonic Bikes for Books
The Masons will donate 48 bikes to the Summer Reading Program. Any child who participates in the Summer Reading Program will be entered in to a drawing for a chance to win a brand new bicycle and safety helmet, generously donated by the Rising Virtue # 10 Masonic Lodge!
